Camilo is a small, young olive grove. Our aim is to produce high
quality Extra Virgin Olive Oil and possibly table olives from our mostly
Ligurian-style trees.
We are aiming at the gourmet end of the market and expect to have product
for sale in three to four years.
The property is in the rolling country of Victorias Western Districts.
It comprises 54 hectares of flat, sandy loam country bordered at our eastern
entrance by the 1000 hectare Inverleigh Flora and Fauna Reserve
- home to Eastern Grey Kangaroos, Wedge-Tailed Eagles, Possums, Koalas
and an abundance of other wildlife.
From the flat plains where the olives are planted, the property slopes
55 metres to the west to the Leigh River. The valley view is spectacular
and the river and environs are home to beautiful and very old River Gums.
Label design
The design of our label emphasises the green of the olive tree. The concentric
circles represent the proliferation of fruit. The simplicity of the design
reflects the fact that the olive is one of nature's pure and healthy products.
Drought-proofing
The 2001-2002 season delivered one of Australias worst droughts
in recent times. It wasnt until October in 2002 that we were able
to plant our first olive trees. By then our main 30megalitre irrigation
dam was completed and the irrigation/fertigation system proved more than
capable of supporting the young trees.
